Honeyville's Flavored-Like Beef Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) is actually a meat analogue product made through a special extrusion process which provides a 100% vegetable product that approaches the taste and texture of meat. This highly nutritious vegetarian meat substitute is processed from defatted soy flour which contains more than 52% protein and 18% total dietary fiber. TVP has been used for many years in U.S. Food Nutritional Service programs and has been an integral part of the School Lunch program. Because of the recognized health and nutritional benefit of soy protein in the diet and the added benefit of low moisture and low fat content, Honeyville Flavored-like Beef TVP is an ideal product for long term food storage and emergency preparedness.
Shelf-Life: Beef Flavored TVP will store for 10 to 20 years in a sealed #10 can (oxygen absorber included) under ideal storage conditions (cool, dry place). Once
opened, it has an average shelf life of 6 to 12 months.
Instructions: Add one part textured vegetable protein to one part hot water. Allow beef TVP to hydrate for about 15 minutes. Adding ½ cup textured vegetable protein to ½ cup of water will yield about 1 cup of cooked meat substitute.
Uses: Beef Flavored TVP can be used separately or in combination with meat as an effective meat extender in burritos, tacos, soups, pastas and more.

Ingredients: TVP (soy flour, caramel color), partially hydrogenated soybean oil, water, salt, hydrolyzed corn-soy-wheat protein, autolyzed yeast.

I used the beef flavored TVP to make an awesome hash today. 1/2 c beef tvp rehydrated, 1/2 c brocolli, 1/2 c brown rice, 1 small can of mushrooms drained, 1/2 t italian seasoning, a little extra spicy mrs. D blend, salt and pepper to taste, heat in skillet, then take 1/4 c Honeyville egg whites, and 3/4 c warm water, mix together, then pour over the other ingredients, stir until cooked to desired consistency. Makes two good servings. The flavor of the beef perfectly compliments the brocolli and mushrooms and eggs together... This may sound horrible to some, but try it! Honeyville's products are awesome, they've earned a lifetime customer here.

I've only used this in chili so far, but I'm anxious to try a tvp burger soon. The flavor is just right for me. This tvp doesn't get overly mushy when rehydrated, there's still just enough solidity to it to closely mimic the texture of cooked ground beef. Extremely low in fat, high protein, great product!

So far I have used it in Chili, Vegetable soup, Beef gravy, and Stew, no one was the wiser, taste good and seems to play well with others. It seems to be better accepted when mixed with real meat.

Took the lead from another reviewer...hydrated, ground in my food processor and used it to make meatballs. I used the same recipe from my pre veggie days and they turned out great! A lot less expensive than the frozen meat replacement product I use and more convenient as I don't always have the frozen version on hand. Next up TVP meat loaf which I'm expecting to be a success. Will never be without this.
