Freeze Drying Background
Freeze Drying was first actively developed during World War II. Serum being
sent to Europe for medical treatment of the wounded required refrigeration. Many serum supplies were spoiling due to lack of refrigeration capabilities for shipments
across the ocean to Europe. The freeze drying process was developed as a commercial technique that enabled serum to be rendered chemically stable and viable without
having to be refrigerated. Afterward, the freeze drying process was applied to penicillin and bone, then the process became recognized as an important technique for
preservation of biologicals. Over time, this freeze drying technique has been improved and used for a wide variety of products, including food processing and retail.
Health Benefits
Some of the biggest questions in this day and age revolve around health and fitness. Many people feel that meat is not a healthy part of a balanced diet.
On the contrary, meats are an important source of protein, calcium, zinc, and many more nutrients that a balanced diet requires. The biggest benefit of meat
is protein. Proteins are combinations of amino acids. These are necessary for:
- - Building, repairing, and maintaining body tissue
- - Synthesizing hormones and enzymes
- - Supplying energy
Amino acids are classified as either essential or non-essential. Your body makes non-essential amino acids, but you have to provide your body with nine
essential amino acids to maintain a healthy diet. These include: histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, valine, and
tryptophan. A food is considered to be a “complete protein” if it contains all nine of the essential amino acids needed. Chicken and turkey are an example
of a “complete protein” food. Other nutrients that meat providesare as follows:
- - Iron – supports a healthy immune system; helps in brain development
- - Zinc – helps with cell reproduction, tissue growth, and repair
- - Vitamin B12 – helps the body use fatty acids; helps make red blood cells
- - Vitamin B6 – helps the body make non-essential amino acids
- - Niacin – helps make energy; helps the body use sugars and fatty acids
- - Thiamin – helps make energy from carbohydrates
- - Selenium – assists in cell growth; helps immune system functions
- - Phosphorus – important component of teeth and bones; component of DNA and RNA which are critical for cell repair and growth
The Dietary Guide Lines for Americans 2010 offers good direction for healthy lifestyles. Of particular interest is the principle that advises, “Go Lean with Protein”. This guide
line recommends selecting the lower fat options with “lean meats and poultry.” All These nutrients are important for a healthy lifestyle. Freeze dried foods
are important for long shelf life and emergency situations. Honeyville’s Ranchers Cut meats are the best of both worlds. Each kind has its own individual
benefits for your long term food storage and family preparedness.
Freeze Dried Beef Dices
Honeyville’s Ranchers Cut Freeze Dried Beef Dices are made from 100% wholesome beef, inspected and approved by the USDA. We dice it, cook it, and
freeze dry it for great tasting beef and excellent shelf life. The biggest benefits of beef is protein, zinc, iron, and B vitamins. In a recent study, protein
from beef, along with physical activity and a calorie-controlled diet, may aid with weight management by increasing thermoneogenesis which influences satiety
and boosts energy expenditure, helping maintain lean muscle mass and improves and enhances the functions of the metabolic process. Other studies evaluating
health risks across the range of protein intakes found individuals with the highest protein intake had the lowest risk for coronary heart disease (CHD). Zinc
from beef has also been demonstrated to improve cognitive performance. In fact, research from the American Journal of
Clinical Nutrition suggests zinc has a role in improving recall skills, reasoning, psychomotor functions and attention. Honeyville’s Ranchers Cut Freeze
Dried Beef Dices are great in soups and has a shelf life of up to 15 years unopened in ideal storage conditions (a cool dry place).
Freeze Dried White Chicken
Honeyville’s Ranchers Cut Freeze Dried White Chicken is made from 100% North American poultry. We dice it, cook it, and freeze dry it for great tasting
chicken and excellent shelf life. Chicken is considered one of the better meats to eat in a healthy diet. This is because chicken has no carbohydrates and
has extremely low sodium levels. Chicken contains calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, niacin, and vitamins B12 and A. Chicken is a “complete protein”
food, which means it contains all nine of the essential amino acids we need that our body cannot produce on its own. According to the USDA, choosing lean,
skinless white chicken breasts as an optimal high-protein, low-fat food source is highly advised compared to dark meat and chicken with the skins on them.
The skin on the chicken increases calorie count and fat content. Honeyville’s Ranchers Cut Freeze Dried White Chicken is great for chicken and dumplings and
has a shelf life of up to 15 years unopened in ideal storage conditions (a cool dry place).
Freeze Dried White Turkey
Honeyville’s Ranchers Cut Freeze Dried White Turkey is made from 100% North American poultry. We dice it, cook it, and freeze dry it for great tasting
turkey and excellent shelf life. Turkey is a nutrient-rich protein that is lower in fat and calories than many other foods within this group of meats. Turkey
contains protein, iron, zinc, B vitamins and phosphorus. A study confirms that middle-aged people who eat more protein-rich foods, such as turkey, have fewer
hip fractures resulting from osteoporosis. This supports the hypothesis that adequate dietary protein is important for bone health, which can impact overall
health and fitness. Honeyville’s Ranchers Cut Freeze Dried White Turkey is great for pot pies and has a shelf life of up to 15 years unopened in ideal storage
conditions (a cool dry place).
Freeze Dried Sausage Crumbles
Honeyville’s Ranchers Cut Freeze Dried Sausage Crumbles are made from 100% North American Pork. We cook it and freeze dry it for great tasting pork
sausage and excellent shelf life. Pork sausage provides significant amounts of protein and essential B vitamins. Pork sausage has no carbohydrates, no
sugar, and no fiber. The greatest benefits of pork sausage is protein, iron, and phosphorus. Pork sausage is a “complete protein” food, which means it
contains all nine of the essential amino acids we need that our body cannot produce on its own. It also supplies phosphorus, which is important for heart,
kidney, and bone health. Although pork sausage contains very little Vitamin C, it does contain many of the water-soluble B vitamins. Non-essential amino
acids are also found in sausage, such as arginine and alanine. Alanine assists in the breakdown of glucose while arginine supports the immune system reports
Prescription for Nutritional Healing. Honeyville’s Ranchers Cut Freeze Dried Sausage Crumbles are great with any
breakfast dish and has a shelf life of up to 15 years unopened in ideal storage conditions (a cool dry place).

influences satiety and boosts energy expenditure, helping maintain lean muscle mass and improves and enhances the functions of the metabolic process.
Zinc from ground beef has also been demonstrated to improve cognitive performance. In fact, research from the American
Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests zinc has a role in improving recall skills, reasoning, psychomotor functions and attention. Honeyville’s Ranchers Cut
Freeze Dried Ground Beef is great for tacos and has a shelf life of up to 15 years unopened in ideal storage conditions (a cool dry place).

has excellent shelf life. The biggest benefits of ham are protein, copper, magnesium, iron, and B vitamins. Ham does contain higher levels of
sodium and people usually pick chicken or fish for their protein needs, but ham is also important to have as part of a healthy diet. Ham is considered
a filling food, which means when you eat ham you feel more satisfied and stay full longer. In many studies, eating filling foods will stop the desire
to snack. This helps people lose weight and eat proper meals instead of junk food and snacks. Honeyville’s Ranchers Cut Freeze Dried Ham is great for
soups and has a shelf life of up to 15 years unopened in ideal storage conditions (a cool dry place).
