Have been using this as it has no cholesterol and started out mixing 50/50 with milk have now switched to just this.I got caught mixing it that is how they discovered that this was not real milk. great product and super easy..Mix with 1/2 hot water and then add ice cubes to equal amount wanted and no wait to use.

Our new milk!

This instant alternative to milk is outstanding. I did a blind taste test with our 11 year old and he identified the honeyville milk alternative as the 'real' milk and the 'real' milk as the 'fake' milk (as he puts it). Obviously he couldn't tell the difference! Our other kids, 6 and 3 love it too and never questioned whether it was 'real' or not when presented with it. It's best to mix it first with a little warm water and then add the rest of the water. Additionally, if you are following a low carb diet this stuff is a godsend. It has less carbs than regular milk and even lower calories per glass. It's so much cheaper too...we calculated that for each case we buy we are saving about 40-50 dollars over the regular store milk. That really adds up. For those who want to know what the consistency is like...it's kind of thinner like skim or 1% milk but the flavor is like 2% or even whole. I sometimes add about 1/8 cup more of powder than a gallon calls for if I want it to be extra creamy tasting, but really you don't need to do that. It's great by itself, mixed with chocolate or on cereal. I've used it in baking and have seen no difference in the way my baked goods have turned out. This is an outstanding product and I'd recommend it to anyone. I'd suggest storing in glass pitchers if you have them. It tastes fine in plastic, but it's outstanding when stored in glass.

Best Powedered Milk Ever!
Matthew (Utah) 11/2/2011 10:12 PM
I've always gagged when drinking powdered milk, but wanted to get some on hand since we live 25 miles from the nearest gas and groceries. When I read the reviews on this I didn't believe it, but thought I'd give it a try. This is NOT your father's powdered milk (well, maybe it's your father's, but not mine)! What a treat! I will now use it almost exclusively for my cereal in the morning. A good way to mix it up quick and cool is to add the powder with a cup or so of warm water, and then add the appropriate amount of cold water with some ice cubes after the powder is dissolved. You don't have to wait for hours while it cools in the fridge!

gallons per case of milk
bo (virginia) 6/23/2011 1:26 AM
In case anyone wants to know, case of this milk will make 36 gallons as opposed to them listing it by how many quarts in the info here. That comes out to be a little over 2.00 a gallon using dry milk priced at Honeyville. Wow that is a savings of about 2 bucks in my area. I've noticed our store brand is the cost now of what brand name used to be in Virginia, that's about 4 to 4.50 a gallon.

I Wouldn't Have Believed It IF We Hadn't Tried It Ourselves.
Hutchinson Family (New Mexico) 5/9/2011 3:29 PM
My kids, my husband and I actually prefer this over whole milk! I wouldn't have believed it if we hadn't tried it ourselves! We have always kept powdered milk (from the grocery store) for baking and emergencies and we tolerated it but never enjoyed it. This Milk Alternative is healthy and satisfying. With the chocolate milk, I presented it to my family without their knowledge, with this I told them. We were all prepared to tolerate it and get to the store as soon as practical. We never made that milk run. Alone, with cereal, in cooked and baked goods, this is our families new Milk. It costs less per gallon, meets our nutritional needs, tastes great and we never run out of milk anymore. The low cost shipping makes it even more attractive, if that is possible.

Lactose Husband said wow this is goood!
Heather Haney (Tulsa, OK) 2/8/2010 8:33 AM
My husband has not had milk in years, from reading the reviews we thought we would give it a try, it is also a great savings for as much milk as our kids drink and my husband was missing drinking milk and having cereal. We ordered a case, and will continue to stock up by the case lot since it will become an everyday staple and also save us trips to the store. Tastes great even without adding sugar and vanilla like some powdered milk needs. Would be a treat to add that I am sure but not really necessary. We used the milk pitcher and now need another one! Kids boy 8, girl 4, girl 2. Cant beat the shipping!

Father of five
David (Allen, Texas) 11/10/2009 8:13 AM
It sounded too good to be true as we have tried various different powdered milk products over the years (all of which left a fair amount to be desired), but I mixed some of this up and placed it in the refrigerator for a few hours. All of our children (we have 5) thought that it was pretty good. Not quite like fresh milk, but pretty close. Close enough that it will warrant an additional order to keep on hand for those Sunday mornings when you realize you are out of milk as well as for longer term storage.

My Wife and I have two boys and are expecting our 3rd. Currently we average 2 1/2 gallons of milk every week for the 2 boys. For over a year now we have been using the milk replacer. The boys and we ourselves cannot tell the difference between it and store bought milk. As far as use in recipes, we have not experienced any problems. It is nice to also know that the nutrional value is still there vitamin for vitamin when compared to store bought as well. We even take small quanties with us when traveling. THE BIGGEST PLUS FOR US THOUGH, IS THAT AFTER SHIPPING & A 10% DISCOUNT WE CAN PUT A GALLON OF MILK IN THE REFRIDGERATOR FOR $1.66/gal. Milk at our local grocer is well over $3/gallon.

Delicious!

I really enjoy this milk alternative, to the point that I have started using it instead of fresh, store-bought milk. I'm not a fan of milk in general, and half cringe at the prospect of drinking it, but I willingly drink this stuff and even like it! Try a can -- it's great storage.
