Yummy!
Pam (Elbert, CO) 5/7/2012 6:13 AM
I just keep a quart available in the fridge at all times. add 1/2 cup of mix to a mason jar add warm water and shake. I had bad memories as a kid of trying ( powdered milk) That stuff was awefull...This stuff tastes exactly like the milk i buy! Now I will be buying by the case! In a crisis its nice to know i will be able to have milk, I have neighbors that own goats but dont think they would share their goats milk in a crisis. Stocking up on dairy... how else would you do it... this is the only way, sitting on a shelf.

alternative milk
michel whitworth (madison ks) 2/27/2012 7:39 AM
I would just like to say that this product is very good, I usually buy 2% milk and I wanted to try this as it is 20 miles to the store. I followed the instructions and I also used a glass container. Let it stand over night. I cannot tell the difference between it and the 2% milk. It will sure save me some money on gas when I run out of milk and cannot get to the store. michael whitworth.

Powdered Milk Has Come a Long Way
VeronicaC (San Antonio) 1/20/2012 7:32 PM
This is nothing like the powdered milk we all know and hate. When I asked my daughter to try a chilled glass of the Honeyville Farms milk she said, "Yeah, it's milk...and." There is very slight (VERY slight) powdered milk taste, but it didn't put me off from downing a cold glass. And I despise powdered milk. It's great knowing we won't have a morning where we run out of milk. I don't know what one of the other reviewers is fussing about as far as having way too much sugar. Except for the substitute having less protein, 1% milk and the substitute are close to the same in nutrients. Milk Substitute Carbs 9 gram Sugar 9 grams Fat 2 Protein 3 grams Vit. A 30% Vit. D 30% Calcium 25% Regular 1% milk Carbs 11 gram Sugar 12 grams Fat 2.4 Protein 8.2 grams Vit. A 10% Calcium 29%

Don't even try it!
Jeanne (Fredericksburg) 1/13/2012 8:42 AM
This is basically the stuff you put in your coffee. It is NOT milk nor nutritional in anyway. It has too much sugar. VERY disappointed. Carnation Instant is better nutritionally than this product!

dehydrated milk
Mom (Odessa) 10/20/2011 5:10 AM
This milk is just delicious. I was very impressed with the flavor. It is hard for my children to drink the dry milk from the store, so I decided to try this brand. They enjoy drinking it. I like to use it in my recipes.

Great!
Laura (Virginia) 9/24/2011 7:46 AM
Growing up we drank powdered milk and I HATED it. As I knew I needed something for food storage I went ahead and bought a case of this for recipe use. I decided that I'd try suggestions of adding vanilla and mixing it half and half with real milk. I mixed up a gallon with the intention of mixing it with milk. After letting it refrigerate over night I decided to taste it before mixing it in. I was surprised at how delicious it was. I did mix it half and half with the regular milk but I think we're just going to switch to this. My little boys thought it was fine. In fact, my 10 year old said he liked it better than regular milk! If you grew up with powdered milk and have bad memories you have to give this a try. It is NOT the same.

Everything it claims...
CP (Kentucky) 9/15/2011 8:14 PM
My husband and I found ourselves on the line of not always finishing the gallon on time but buying three or four quarts two pricey. We decided to go with powdered milk but the stuff in the store was the same price or more than the liquid. We've tried a couple other products here and like them so we thought why not. Personally, I'm not a big fan of powdered milk but found this to be a pleasant surprise. The taste is mild and not the taste I've come to associate with powder. I like mine a bit richer so add an extra quarter cup to my two quart jar. We use it mainly for our nightly chai or hot cocoa and the occasional morning ceral. I have not used it in cooking yet. Overall, I think this a great buy and will keep on using it. Its nice to know I don't have to worry about sour milk anymore.

milk
Nancy (Shreveport) 8/5/2011 11:52 AM
I do not like powered milk, so was a little leary....but wow this is so good. And you dont have to add anything. No one can tell the difference. It is so nice to not have to run to the store all the time for milk. This has become a pantry staple. Love everything I have tried. Thanks so much.

Love love love it!
Mrs O (MI) 4/22/2011 10:12 AM
We bought this product and love it for everything we use it in! It is creamy and tastes great! We make a quart and let it sit overnight in a glass canning jar in the frig. Our cost works out to about 2.33 per gallon, vs almost 5.00 at our local grocer. Also bought celery, onions, and mushrooms. Storing for emergencies so we havent opened those yet, but I have total faith they are also top notch products. I am going shopping on this site again!

Want to try the chocolate now!
Mason (Central GA) 4/1/2011 10:40 AM
I'm not a big milk drinker but love milk mixed with my protein shakes from working out or with a warm plate of cookies ;). I mixed this stuff up and let it chill in the fridge. It tasted great. I've used it as a substitute in recipes such as pancakes and just add the required amount of water with no problems. It doesn't work well as a creamer in coffee. It tends to seperate! Great for an emergency food supply. i just ordered the chocolate milk to give it a try. It tends however to have a froth at the top of the container but that just affects appearance not the taste.

Excellent!
Donna W (Florida) 3/4/2011 4:20 PM
Wow. Just Wow. I was a diehard Bob's Red Mill nonfat powdered milk fan. I would faithfully add sugar and vanilla to BRM powdered milk because it was foamy, watery, translucent and definitely needed additives. It was still better than the yellowy puffy instant milk you buy at the store, no amount of additives makes that stuff taste ok! Then I tried Honeyvillegrains Instant Milk Substitute...Man, as picky as I am, I can't believe how much like regular whole milk this product tastes like. It actually tastes creamy, more like whole milk and it doesn't need any additives, no sugar, no vanilla, no nothing! No more worries about throwing out rancid milk or buying milk from the store and getting rancid milk from the getgo. I am very pleased. To show I am fair and balanced, the powdered butter is a different matter, I think I got a bad batch! Will update here and on butter testimonial page after contacting Honeyvillegrain about it, thanks for reading!

Splenda as an additive
Victoria (Texas) 2/3/2011 9:41 PM
For Heaven's sake DON'T add Splenda to anything! It is poison! Any one need only do a little research to find out how poisonous Splenda is! Splenda practically sends me to the emergency room the few times I accidentally ingested it. PLEASE do not add artificial sweeteners and colors to your products! Splenda included!

No Sugar, Please
Ben (Columbus, OH) 1/29/2011 8:42 AM
I would love to see this in a no-sugar, low-carb offering. On the the problems with milk is all the carbs, and there's just not a good powdered alternative. Try Splenda, please!

No Trans Fats Here
Honeyville Grain (California) 8/20/2010 10:53 AM
I work at Honeyville and thought I should address the trans fat issue. The milk substitute recipe was changed about 5 years ago to a trans fat free version. We neglected to update the ingredient listing on the site and have since corrected that. Also, the can label is being redesigned and should reflect the most up to date info. Sorry for the confusion. Your feedback is what makes our products the best.

Trans fats galore
Julene (California) 8/10/2010 2:12 PM
No matter what the taste, anything with the words "hydrogenated" on the ingredients is not fit for human consumption. Please find a way to make your products without resorting to the use of these dangerous trans fats. It's the most unhealthy fat there is!

Fanatastic for everything!
Donna G (Western MA) 8/4/2010 8:39 PM
I've been using 1% milk forever and started to have problems with it. I am also house bound most of the time and can't get milk so tried this. I LOVE it! It kinda reminds me of baby formula, but when used in smoothies from scratch, it is great! IO had protein powders and MSM and just about anything I feel like it for a stomach disorder called Gastroparesis. Means my stomach does not empty correctly so food needs to be blended and ground. YUCK! This substitute makes digestion easier and adds a nice texture to the smoothies along with vitamins. I would suggest anyone who hates milk or has a problem with milk to try it out. It certainly works for me. However this is made, it takes away the pain and problems of real milk for me. Plus it is always here when I want some. May not go well in cereal or for dipping cookies for some, but a little Splenda makes it even better. I recently went back to milk when I ran out of the powder and started to get sick again. I think it is worth the price to try it if you don't like milk and I am on a fixed income. DAG

Milk Alternative
Sandra Linkletter (Iowa) 3/17/2010 8:02 PM
We bought this in the 6-combo. As a fresh milk alternative, the flavor of this is better than all-soy non-dairy creamer, but not as good as a powdered milk. It mixes very well into baked goods. The smell and the texture of the powder reminds me very much of non-dairy creamer. If I were buying for emergency use, I think this would be a good investment. For use as a staple, this does not fit our needs.

I'm sold!
SWest (Virginia) 3/2/2010 10:37 AM
I love the convenience of this milk substitute! I think it tastes very good. Much better than store-bought powdered milk. I have to "mix and serve" pitchers that I use - when one's empty, I make another so I always have cold milk! It says you can use it in baking - haven't tried that yet but did try it with making cheese sauce for mac and cheese -Did NOT work! But that's okay - I love not having to run to the store every couple of days to get milk - as you know, you always leave with more than milk - so saves money all around! I'll buy it by the case!!

I measured badly
Pete (Montana) 2/18/2010 7:49 PM
I just finished my 2nd can of milk. I make 1 gallon at a time since I drink it fairly quickly. I measured more carefully this time and got 25 quarts from this 2nd can. So I'm sure anyone can get 24 qts per can...just as advertised. I doubt I'll be going back to store milk anytime soon.
