Oooh so good!

I've been looking for a cheddar cheese blend. Voila it was in my pantry the whole time!
Here's the deal. Trust me, my food groups are sugar, sugar, sugar, sugar and oh did I mention SUGAR! I'm the fussiest eater in the world.
So this cheese sauce is in POWDER form. It's wonderful. I just had the best microwave popcorn--I sprayed on that cooking spray and used lots of this cheese powder. YUM is all I can say. Later I'll try Mac and cheese, but I think I'm good. The best recipe I've seen is 1/4 cheese, 1/4 milk and 1/4 butter. And you can add more cheese powder to taste!
Next month I'm buying a case and putting it in my pantry. It's a new STAPLE for my house! I am so glad I finally opened this can. I don't have a #10 lid so I've put it in those rubber cans with lids and have stored it in the fridge for now. Don't think it'll last long with me!
Happy eating!

I was skeptical about powdered cheese sauce. Reconstitution with water sounded gross, to be honest.
So I can't tell you how surprised I was when I got the can (in one day, no less) and tried it out. It was actually pretty good...not as good as my homemade cheese sauce, but also much easier and cheaper to prepare. And I'm thinking with a few additiions, this will make some fine cheese sauces in the future.

I bought this product because my grandson liked the powdered cheese in the macaroni & cheese boxes. Made some macaroni & cheese for him and he loved it. Ate two bowls. Then I made a chicken spaghetti recipe that usually uses Cheez Whiz. It also turned out amazing. Can't tell the difference. The only thing is that the 4-1 ratio makes a pretty thin sauce. I used a 2 or 3-1 ratio instead. Turned out great. Will be keeping this on hand.

At home it gets a 4.5, on the road, its a pure 5.
Dips, pastas, soups, etc....
Anywhere cheese sauce is used, this can be used.
Easy to make thick or thin by adjusting water added.

Not at 4 to 1

Ok, I see why it got a bad review, at a 4 to 1 mixture with water its pretty bland, drop it down to about a 2 to 1 mixture and it starts gettin' cheesey.

I use this together with dehydrated potato dices to make a copy of the name brand Au Gratin potato mix. It works well, just remember it's the cheese only without the salt and spices you may be used to. Personally, I like this, since I can season it to my own taste.

Cheese in a can? I wasn't expecting much. How good could this stuff be? Well, it is really, really good! I made some as a topping for baked potatoes, and it tasted like the real thing. Next stop was macaroni and cheese - passed with flying colors. All in all this product tastes better than that famous "V" product that comes in a box, at a fraction of the cost. Also, the 3:1 ratio is more economical than other competing powder products that need 2:1 or more. I'm ordering more. Wolfie's easy M&C recipie: take 1 lb whole wheat pasta, drain, and refill original pot w/ 3 cups clean boiling water. Take 1 cup of cheese powder and 1 cup of rehydrated (or fresh) ground beef or sausage. Mix all ingredients well. Fold in 1 can of diced or stewed tomatoes, cut up. Tabasco to taste. Feeds the whole work crew!

Very easy to prepare and taste great. I used this cheese sauce with the potato slices and some chopped ham to make a big pan of cheesy potatoes that my entire family loved! It couldn't have been any easier and would be great camping etc. I will be using this for many, many dishes!

Review Part 3 - : )
Recommendations:
#1) Never use a microwave - this stuff will just lose all flavor, even at 2:1 concentration mixes.
#2) Use warm, not cold, and not hot water - that'll avoid the clumping. Though the clumps really concentrate the flavor, and I've found that having the clumps in some egg recipes can really improve the flavor retention, which brings us to:
#3) Avoid mixing with the prepared and cooked powdered egg also here on Honeyville. The eggs will just suck up the cheese sauce and you won't even be able to notice the cheese flavor. : )
Good stuff, all told. A bit expensive for the amount needed at the concentrations that give good results, but a good, simple, fast and flexible sauce.

Just tried this cheese for the first time last night. It was a really great product. The taste and texture was very much like regular cheese. It was very easy to prepare using the instructions provided on the can. I will certainly be using more of this product in the future and would recommend it to anyone.

This tastes more like real cheese than Velveeta, which is what I used in cooking for nearly 30 years. It doesn't take damage on the foil and get hard spots in the refrigerator, or get weevils and spoil before the expiration date just sitting on the pantry shelf. This stuff not only tastes better but it is easier to add in varying proportions to dishes. I like to boil meat, rice, and vegetables in a pot together, and blend some of this mixed with water in at the end. It makes a delicious thickened stew with cheese flavoring. My sloppy technique makes some lumps, but they taste good too. My husband does a better job on the sauce for his macaroni and cheese. We tried it in the 6-combo and ordered a case of 6 after that, so that tells you what we really think of it.

This cheese powder was much better than I expected. You do have to use a LOT to get a good cheese flavor because it's a little bland with the mixture they suggest on the can.
Still, it smells good, was fresh, and has made it easier to make cheesy dishes without a lot of fuss.

Well, Honeyville Farms did actually publish the negative review I posted - kudos to them for not censoring unfavorable reviews like so many other sites. I guess that means you can trust these reviews a little more then you may otherwise - nice for the rest of us. : )
As for an addendum, I've been using a concentration of 2:1 or 2.25:1 water-to-sauce, and the results are pretty good. A nice cheesy flavor, thick enough to hold together (ie; no longer soup-like), no need for additional butter, though I frequently add some powdered milk substitute as well - about a tablespoon per half cup cheese powder. Adding a sharp salsa makes for great mexican dishes, and mixing with broccoli, cauliflower, and chicken is also a simple, tasty dish.

In addition to erythritol for homemade soda, I picked up a can of this as well - I've been looking for a good, shelf-stable cheese mix for adding zest and flavor to dishes, without needing to worry about whipping up a cheese sauce from scratch.
Unfortunately, I was rather disappointed by a bland, flavorless taste, though it's texture was agreeable, though at a slightly higher concentration then listed: 1:3, rather then 1:4. Even at that concentration, though, the taste was still hardly present, and the aftertaste/mouthfeel wasn't terribly satisfying either.
In short, expect to add a lot of stronger flavors in order to use this sauce in a satisfactory recipe - this will turn into just a thick/fatty carrier, not a flavor. <sigh> Too bad. : |

Your powdered cheese is wonderful, and economical as well. I use it in many things, including instant potatoes, which changes potatoes from boring, to delicious. Also scalloped potatoes. Thank you!

I really enjoy using the powdered cheddar cheese for making macaroni and cheese for my family. I used it in place of a can of condensed cheese soup for a casserole yesterday with great results.
