Perfect sausage substitute

Have only tried in scrambled egg whites, but the flavor was outstanding for tvp. High in protein, low in fat, an awesome addition where sausage is needed.

Not your Grandma's Sausage
Robert (Atlanta) 4/9/2013 4:25 PM
Let me start by saying; what is not meat... is not meat. Sausage patty? No! Sausage substitute in a lasagna or on a pizza? Yes. I would have liked to have seen a bigger grain size for this product as it has the consistancey of taco hamburger. While I personally was not partial to the taste (a bit sweet for me) and given the fact that it is not meat, it does better resemble the taste of sausage than most I've tried. If your looking for a breakfast sausage, I'd pass this one by. If you're looking for a recipe enhancement, I'd say it's worth a try. Fair!

Surprisingly good.

Honestly I didn't know what to expect when I ordered this. I'm a big eater from way back but I just finished a long juice fast to lose weight and I'm starting to dabble in meatless cooking. I found this online and decided to give it a try with the bacon flavor. Honestly, I'm shocked how much I like this stuff. In a vegan lasagna you'd never know it wasn't real sausage but even more telling is I like it just standing on it's own. I add a little hot sauce to the water when I rehydrate it and it's really quite good. Now I need to order the other flavors... I think Ham is up next.

Wow... it's wonderful!

I had been fighting a "biscuit and sausage gravy" craving for a month, at least. I would not go to the restaurants because I don't eat real pork or high fat meats any more than I just have to due to my high cholesterol level. I made some dry country gravy mix and added about 1/4 cup of this Sausage Flavored TVP to it and to my amazement it was absolutely wonderful! Thank you so much for a very true to taste product.

Holy Cow!

After years of a low fat, almost no meat diet I can enjoy biscuits and gravy! Superb taste, actually slightly browns in skillet, very nice texture. Im not dead sure anyone in my family would know its not fine ground turkey sausage. Well done!

Quite Amazed
Terry Pack (Ohio) 12/30/2011 11:24 AM
Mixed with Scrambled eggs, in gravy, or alone, I was surprised by the taste of this stuff. We try new stuff for the camping and hiking trips and this will add great taste to morning breakfasts.

We absolutely love this product, and cannot wait to try the chicken and beef TVP. It smells and tastes wobderful, and when rehydrated properly, it is hard to tell the difference between real sausage. I enjoy the fact it is plant protein and not an actualy animal product. Trust this line of products!

Good stuff
Gus (Maine) 8/21/2011 1:00 PM
Love the smell of this stuff. The added maple syrup really adds to it. It tastes pretty good, too. My only complaint would be the 'aftertaste' I get from it. All TVP does it to me, so this one isn't any different in that respect. I'm a fairly new vegetarian, and just wanted to add something that tasted like something I used to eat. Not yet sure if I'll be getting it again or not. Guess I'll cross that bridge when I finish the can.

Vegetarian Substitute
Mark (Kentucky) 7/3/2011 7:47 AM
This stuff is fantastic! I just had some stuffed in a tortilla, it was pretty good and really fast. I guess, I'll be buying more sausage flavored TVP in the future - and this time it was so good I will likely experiment with different flavors. It isn't exactly like sausage, just like bacos aren't really like bacon. However, it is pretty close - I would say closer than the typical soy bacon bits taste to their meat analogue.

AWESOME!

Reconstitute a pinch or two in warm water for around 10-15 minutes and add them to your eggs. Scramble up and enjoy! We even use this product to make vegetarian sausage gravy for biscuits. I love it, and trust me, I am very particular about my biscuits and gravy. We bought a single can to try and now we are ordering a case. You can't go wrong with this sausage flavored TVP.

the one who cooks
Sandy. (Syracuse) 9/29/2010 12:08 AM
I was very surprised and pleased with this sausage flavored TVP. You should let it sit for a while after rehydrating, and before cooking, to let the yummy flavors come out fully. I made a batch, keeping part in the fridge, and used this to make 2 or 3 breakfasts of scrambled egg with "sausage." You could make a wonderful breakfast burrito with this too. You don't have to, but I sometimes add a little canola oil to some of the TVP products, and let them soak up that as well as the water. I find that a little oil, or even margarine, makes the products richer and even more flavorful.

Does it really need a title?
Glenn (Tucson) 6/10/2010 3:03 PM
Not bad. Granule size is on par with the normal beef TVP. Spice mixture does remind me of Jimmy Dean or slightly spicier. Nice to see this on the website, have been picking up at the Chandler AZ outlet store.
