My grandmother always cooked pinto beans overnight before making her chili with Williams Chili Powder/Mix. I hasten to add that her chili was a mild, tomato-free Oklahoma/Missouri chili, long on flavor but short on fire. Served with Nabisco Saltine crackers and milk, it was our family's winter comfort food.
I do not have the time to do all this painstaking cooking, and my daughter will not eat pinto beans in any form other than refried beans. My chili never tasted like Grandma's chili until my Mom told me about the long-cooking pinto beans, and I tried adding Honeyville Farms' Refried Bean Flakes to the last hour's cooking of my chili in the crock pot. Voila! Tastes just like Grandma's chili without watching the pot on the stove for 24 hours!

When I cook pinto beans, I add refried beans to the pot, as well. It makes the soup nice and thick, just as I like it. Refried beans are nice to have on hand for this purpose, as well as making bean and cheese burritos. Keeping shelf-stable foods that are quick and easy to prepare makes a lot of sense to me.

These are a big hit in our house. My nine-year-old daughter LOVES refried beans, and these are so quick and easy that she can easily fix them herself for a snack. They do not have the additives that most canned refried beans do (such as soybean oil, preservatives and flavorings). Thank you for a great product!
