Honeyville's Flavored-Like Sausage Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) is actually a meat analogue product made through a special extrusion process which provides a 100% vegetable product that approaches the taste and texture of meat. This highly nutritious vegetarian meat substitute is processed from defatted soy flour which contains more than 52% protein and 18% total dietary fiber. TVP has been used for many years in U.S. Food Nutritional Service programs and has been an integral part of the School Lunch program. Because of the recognized health and nutritional benefit of soy protein in the diet and the added benefit of low moisture and low fat content, Honeyville Flavored-like Sausage TVP is an ideal product for long term food storage and emergency preparedness.
Shelf-Life: Sausage Flavored TVP will store for 10 to 20 years in a sealed #10 can (oxygen absorber included) under ideal storage conditions (cool, dry place). Once
opened, it has an average shelf life of 6 to 12 months.
Instructions: Add one part textured vegetable protein to one part hot water. Allow sausage TVP to hydrate for about 15 minutes. Adding ½ cup textured vegetable protein to ½ cup of water will yield about 1 cup of cooked meat substitute.
Uses: Sausage Flavored TVP can be used separately or in combination with meat as an effective meat extender in omelets, pizza toppings, meat sauces, pastas and more.

Have only tried in scrambled egg whites, but the flavor was outstanding for tvp. High in protein, low in fat, an awesome addition where sausage is needed.

Let me start by saying; what is not meat... is not meat. Sausage patty? No! Sausage substitute in a lasagna or on a pizza? Yes.
I would have liked to have seen a bigger grain size for this product as it has the consistancey of taco hamburger. While I personally was not partial to the taste (a bit sweet for me) and given the fact that it is not meat, it does better resemble the taste of sausage than most I've tried.
If your looking for a breakfast sausage, I'd pass this one by. If you're looking for a recipe enhancement, I'd say it's worth a try.
Fair!

Honestly I didn't know what to expect when I ordered this. I'm a big eater from way back but I just finished a long juice fast to lose weight and I'm starting to dabble in meatless cooking. I found this online and decided to give it a try with the bacon flavor. Honestly, I'm shocked how much I like this stuff. In a vegan lasagna you'd never know it wasn't real sausage but even more telling is I like it just standing on it's own. I add a little hot sauce to the water when I rehydrate it and it's really quite good. Now I need to order the other flavors... I think Ham is up next.

I had been fighting a "biscuit and sausage gravy" craving for a month, at least. I would not go to the restaurants because I don't eat real pork or high fat meats any more than I just have to due to my high cholesterol level. I made some dry country gravy mix and added about 1/4 cup of this Sausage Flavored TVP to it and to my amazement it was absolutely wonderful! Thank you so much for a very true to taste product.
