Soy & TVP Products
Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) is actually a meat analogue product made through a special extrusion process which provides a 100% vegetable product
that approaches the taste and texture of meat. This highly nutritious vegetarian meat substitute is processed from defatted soy flour, which contains more
than 52% protein and 18% total dietary fiber.
Soy used to be the little beans that evoked blank stares or wrinkled noses. But these days soy is a featured ingredient in foods that are tasty and good
for the heart, too. The Food and Drug Administration announced that soy can reduce the risk of heart disease when included in a diet low in saturated
fat and cholesterol, due to research at the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at Urbana-Champaign. As little as 20 grams of soy a day will
lower cholesterol levels, according to the FDA.
Because of the recognized health and nutritional benefit of soy protein in diet and the added benefit of low
moisture and low fat content, soy products are becoming more common in the food service industry. Soy is considered a complete protein so vegetarians who are cutting
out meat from their diet can still get all the amino acids their body requires from soy. Shop Honeyville's soy products below.
