Honeyville's Steel Cut Oats, also known as Pinhead Oatmeal , have been carefully selected from premium milling quality oats. Steel cut oats are really the best of the best when it come to getting the most out of a whole grain oat. Of all of the varieties of oats on the market (rolled oats, instant oats, quick oats, etc.) steel cut oats are the best choice. Steel cut oats maintain all of the nutrients from the whole grain oat as they are simply whole oat groats that have been cut into small pieces. Steel Cut Oats are a rich source of soluble fiber, protein, and vitamins, as well as other nutrients like selenium, thiamin, phosphorous, and manganese. Just three grams of soluble fiber from oatmeal daily in a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease. A thirty day regimen of 1 bowl a day of oatmeal will actually aid the body in removal of cholesterol. Steel cut oats are a great way to supplement a diet targeted at maintaining a healthy digestive tract and a healthy heart.

Editor's Notes: I'm always looking for new and different ways to get a healthy breakfast that I can prepare and eat quickly. I think I have a winner with my latest breakfast creation. I take a packet or two of instant oatmeal (wait, it gets much better), and add it to my coffee cup. I then add three tablespoons of Steel Cut Oats and two tablespoons of Freeze Dried Blueberries. I add water and microwave for a minute. The result is a chewy variation on oatmeal that has the great flavor of blueberries and sticks with me for hours. I get the benefits of a whole grain in the Steel Cut Oats along with all of the anti-oxidants in the Freezed Dried Blueberries. It tastes great and starts my day off right. Give it a try and see what you think. Freeze Dried Blueberry is also great in smoothies and you can add dried blueberries to your cereal for an added treat.

I don't even like oatmeal...

Honestly, I have never liked oatmeal - and I think it is because all my life all I ever had what was everyone calls "oatmeal". I could stomach the instant stuff - as long as it wasn't gooey, but if you read the label, once you get past all the sugar and extras added, you have very little true oatmeal. I tried Honeyville's steel cut oats because they looked interesting and I love everything else I've ever got from Honeyville. Steel cut oats are the BEST and so very simple to cook. All you have to do is add 1 cup of the oats to 5 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of salt (very important). Place all in your crockpot, give a good stir, and cook on high for approximately 2 hours (I use an older 4 quart crockpot for this). Check them once after about an hour and stir. After 2 hours you have the best oatmeal ever - and you don't need to add a thing to it - best of all - when you fix it this way, you have several mornings covered for breakfast - just reheat in micro-safe bowl for a minute and you're set. It couldn't get any easier or better. My son who requires Honeyville's freeze dried strawberries by the truckload even let me sprinkle a few of those on top with some of the dried blueberries too - now that is awesome!
Thanks Honeyville for a superior product, low cost, and exceptional customer service.

My whole family loves these. Nice and hardy, great with the freeze dried fruit added. We also cook them with 4-1 ratio and leave the lid off the pan, stirring occasionally (adding water if needed).

This is the greatest, make sure you use 4 cups of water or milk to one cup of oats, the new cans are now saying 6-1 and that wont work. I cook mine 45 min. or longer. Keep the pan covered and on low once it starts to boil. My daughter has a small crock pot and sets it at night and by morning she has her oatmeal all ready for the family. She says she doesnt have time in the morning to make it. Just a hint to busy Mothers or Fathers. We buy by the case even though there are only two of us because of the great deal, the cans keep for 10 yrs!!! Ours dont!!! Five days out of seven we have our steel cut hot oatmeal and love it, I say we are addicted!!
