Honeyville's Unflavored Textured Vegetable Protein (TVP) is actually a meat analogue product made through a special extrusion process which provides a 100% vegetable product that approaches the taste and texture of meat. This highly nutritious vegetarian meat substitute is processed from defatted soy flour which contains more than 52% protein and 18% total dietary fiber. TVP has been used for many years in U.S. Food Nutritional Service programs and has been an integral part of the School Lunch program. Because of the recognized health and nutritional benefit of soy protein in the diet and the added benefit of low moisture and low fat content, Honeyville Unflavored TVP is an ideal product for long term food storage and emergency preparedness.

Shelf-Life:  Unflavored TVP will store for 10 to 20 years in a sealed #10 can (oxygen absorber included) under ideal storage conditions (cool, dry place). Once opened, it has an average shelf life of 6 to 12 months.

Instructions:  Add one part textured vegetable protein to one part hot water. Allow Unflavored TVP to hydrate for about 15 minutes. Adding ½ cup textured vegetable protein to ½ cup of water will yield about 1 cup of cooked meat substitute.

Uses:  Unflavored TVP can be used separately or in combination with meat as an effective meat extender in pastas, soups, casseroles, meat sauces, and more.

You gotta try this stuff
Cheryl (South Carolina) 5/25/2012 3:02 PM
I bought the unflavored tvp granules because my whole family thinks that anytime I use ground meat, I need to use at least 2 lbs for our family of 4, which can get pretty expensive when you eat ground hamburger at least 3 times a week. This product works exactly as stated. I was worried at first, since I hate soy products, but neither myself nor my family could tell the difference between the tvp vs ground hamburger when I made hotdog chili. I love this stuff and will keep buying it by the case!

Awesome- update

I bought this by the can and the cases. I am so impressed with it. I have used it mixed half and half with beef, sausage and ham, then 2/3 t.v.p. with 1/3 ground meat, and have used it in place of meats altogether. I have used beef base (not boullion) and at different times, au jus paste with it. I have used it in sauces, burrito's both breakfast and beefish, omelets, chili's, and even made meatloaf with it, and a homemade hamburger helper meal without a bit of ground meat in it, and my family did not know they were not eating meat! I also make my own ham salad/sandwich spread using some t.v.p! In beefish dishes, I also use worcheshire sauce to give it the color of beef in ground beef dishes. I use sausage seasonings in breakfast dishes, and ham base (not boullion) for hamish dishes. So, to rehydrate the t.v.p, I start with the amount of t.v.p to water it calls for, I add beef base (which is much more flavorful than boullion), worchesire sauce for color if it's a beefish dish etc, let it rehydrate, then fry it like the ground meat needed for the recipe or added to spaghetti sauce etc. Doing it this way I can make my sausage taste as mild or as strong as I want it. Even Italian sausage flavored! I won't buy t.v.p. anywhere else, I think this is the best.

THE Best!
MaddyD (ND) 8/19/2010 12:09 PM
This unflavored tvp is amazing; no weird taste or aftertaste. Tastes better than any tvp we've ever tried. Used with Honeyville's blanched almond flour (umm, umm good too) and veggies, etc., to make the most delish low carb, high fiber, 'good fat' (added coconut oil) 'burgers.' Am excited to try other recipes with tvp that always sounded good but the results were much less than satisfying. Next order will be for a case.

Limitless uses
SeaGypsy (maryland) 9/30/2009 3:46 AM
Makes great vegetarian TVP tacos with mexican spices. Also makes the perfect texture home made veggie sausage, veggie burgers, with some of honeyville's vital wheat gluten, and assorted tiny chopped veggies, herbs and spices. The vegetarian prepackaged soy/wheat gluten things are pricey and add up, home made can be a nice option with limitless variety all being surprisingly easy. It stores way longer then pre-made and meat products. Very pleased with Honeyville products so far, especially with low shipping and good packaging. i can see it's use for camping and travel, emergency, and everyday.

A different use
Judy L (Marengo) 9/15/2009 1:44 AM
With only two of us, we normally wouldn't use a meat extender. I use this product to add protein to the parrots that I feed. I add the TVP to a cooked mixture that I make daily for them, and add it to the mix a couple times a week. This is a convenient way to add required protein to their diet.
