I purchased a 50LB bag of steel cut oats from Honeyville and I really like them and later while browsing the site I thought I'd try the 2.2 bag of groats and I think they're tops. I intend to get a 50lb bag of them when I finish the steel cuts. It will be some time as I still have 12LB of the steel cut to use. I've given friends some and they really like them.(the steel cut). I wouldn't part with my groats.-;0) Of course I'll share if I get the big bag. The groats need a little more cooking time. After cooking I've used oats as a cerel, as body for my whey protein mix, pan fried and used as a between a meal snack, also mixed with egg white and recooked like a potato cake. I've read online where a couple of people ate them uncooked,, which would be a last resort for me. I think the 2.2 bag is a good size to try. BTW,I know no one at Honeyville. I found their site after joining a health club online which had members who used steel cut oat recipes. Enjoy!!!

Wonderful Breakfast or Stuffing
ChristyACB (Virginia) 2/10/2012 7:27 AM
I'm not a huge fan of the sticky texture of oatmeal but I love the taste of oats so these were recommended by a friend. Turns out I've been missing out on the most delicious and filling breakfast for all my life! Nutty and unique, the flavor is perfectly accepting of either sweet or savory additions. The most energy efficient way to cook these is to bring 2 cups of water and 1 cup of oats (or multiply by 2 for more) to a brisk boil over high heat. As soon as it is at a boil, remove from heat and stir vigorously for a few seconds. Then cover and leave it alone till the next morning. In the A.M. just heat over low heat until warmed through for a more sticky rice type texture or a little longer for softer grains. A 1/2 tsp of sugar or a packet of Stevia with a little milk is all you need for this. It makes a great base for stuffing too. I tried it and couldn't believe how it enriched the flavors for a stuffed chicken.

Better than oatmeal
Frank (Syracuse, NY) 7/12/2009 4:43 PM
I cook 2 cups of water to 1 cup of groats, low heat for 15-20 mins then let sit with cover on until most of the water is absorbed. I take half to work and the other half I put in fridge. I add a couple of teaspoons of brown sugar, cinammon, raisins and milk, and it is excellent. Unlike oatmeal you get to chew something and it tastes better.
